Supervillains have always been an essential part of a good comic book movie, but now the villains will be taking the spotlight in upcoming movies. Among a number of comic book movies in development, many projects will focus on everyone’s favorite supervillains. Finally, audiences will have the chance to feel validated in liking the sympathetic villain more than the hero. Although these well-known antagonists have received a lot of attention in the comic books, movies focusing entirely on the villains are a new and growing trend among Marvel, DC, Sony, Fox, and others....

Read the news today and you’ll find no shortage of depressing headlines. The current presidential race probably has a few candidates you’re not crazy about. Climate change is a growing concern. War and strife continue to plague the world. One couldn’t blame you for feeling fatigued by all the serious news. So sometimes it’s necessary to check-out for a while and get lost in a movie. And some films just have a gift for helping us pierce the gloom and suddenly feel better about the world....

Movies rarely make it out of post-production without losing a chunk of footage to the cutting room floor. Often times, these shaves are necessary. Dumping irrelevant sub plots and long-winded speeches generally produces sharper narratives, and maintaining a trim, engaging run time is key. Some filmmakers are loose with their extra footage while others are wildly protective: both Woody Allen and Stanley Kubrick are famously coy when it comes to sharing omitted sequences....

The biggest reason behind the hype for the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War is the official debut of Thanos, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s biggest, baddest, villain yet. Audiences have only caught glimpses of him before, and for a collection of films often criticized for their soft antagonists. Now hopes are at an all time high for this version of the Mad Titan, played by Josh Brolin. Making his first appearance in the comic books in 1973, Thanos has been a hit villain ever since his inception, usually in stories revolving around his obsessed quest for the Infinity Stones....

Mulan – the legend of a girl who disguises as a man to fight for China in her ailing father’s place – is the latest Disney animated classic to receive the live-action treatment. The remake’s first trailer just dropped, leaving fans and newcomers alike either surprised or excited. Still, older fans can’t help but be nostalgic for the movie they grew up with. Unlike the other Disney remakes, Mulan seems to have diverged significantly from its animated counterpart, promising viewers a different experience in 2020....

Activision Blizzard has been hit with multiple class-action lawsuits over their split with Bungie. The split has prompted a backlash from investors on account of misleading information surrounding the rights of the Destiny franchise. Bungie announced on January 10, 2019 that Activision Blizzard and Bungie were splitting, noting that they were in the early stages of transitioning the rights for the Destiny franchise to Bungie; the intention being that Bungie would become their own publisher in the future....

TikTok is currently under investigation by a bipartisan group of state attorneys general to understand the negative effects the short-form video platform might have on the health of kids and teens. In addition, the AGs are trying to find whether the app violated state consumer protection laws. This group of state attorneys general also investigated Instagram for the same issue. After the Instagram for kids controversy, the head of the company Adam Mosseri had to testify before Congress on how the app affects kids; then, by the end of 2021, Instagram announced its first parental controls following the controversy....

ABC and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 continued to develop the storyline of Inhumans hidden on Earth, as well as delved into the origins of Hydra and their connections to a distant planet. The midseason finale concluded many ongoing story threads, set up certain new plots, and left viewers on a cliffhanger. While Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is on break, ABC is gearing up to premiere the second season of Agent Carter, featuring the original Marvel team at the Strategic Scientific Reserve, including Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) herself....

The villains usually have the best lines, the high-end luxury goods, and, in case of musical bad guys, the best tunes. No network produces quite an amazing cavalcade of villains as The CW. Since the network’s birth from the ashes of the WB network and UPN, the CW has produced some pretty amazing, over-the-top, chew all the scenery villains, and fans just love to hate them....

It looks like Hollywood is taking another crack at the Mortal Kombat franchise in 2021. Joe Taslim is already set to portray Sub Zero and James Wan’s attached as a producer! The film’s Screenwriter Greg Russo even promises that the movie will be rated R! But none of that will matter if Fatalities don’t receive their proper dues. MK’s main claim to fame is the franchise’s over-the-top gore and violence. If this movie’s going to become a huge success, we’ll need to see somebody get their spine ripped out before the credits roll!...
