Season 1 of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why was about as self-contained a story as you can get. Based on the novel by Jay Asher, the series was initially intended to be a feature film, but soon took on a new form as one of the streaming giant’s overlong, sometimes ponderous, supposedly bingeable originals. Though it covered sensitive, important topics like bullying, self-harm, rape, and suicide — sometimes in not the most sensitive of ways — the questions of why Hanna Baker (Katherine Langford) killed herself and chose to explain why on a series of cassette tapes, didn’t have enough story to adequately fill 13 hours of television....

The Razzie Awards are handed out each year around the same time as the Oscars. They ostensibly celebrate the worst films and cinematic performances of the previous twelve months. While intended purely as fun, the Razzies have been a little controversial in some quarters. Anything that’s a high-profile box office flop is undoubtedly something they will target, even if there were far worse movies released during the year. They often overlook the true worst of the worst in favor of picking low-hanging fruit....

They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Along with Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus, Venom is Spider-Man’s chief nemesis, but the character is so immensely popular that he’s warranted his own movie. The faith Sony had in Venom was paid off in big numbers as Venom has grossed over $800 million at the box office and overtaken more well-known heroes like Wonder Woman and Superman’s grosses....

In 2011, fledgling filmmaker Ari Aster, made his directorial debut with a short film titled, The Strange Thing About The Johnsons. It was this twenty-eight minute-long comedy/drama, that would kickstart Aster’s career as a filmmaker. He worked on several more short films for the next few years, and in 2018, his debut feature film, Hereditary, premiered in theatres. The film - which Aster likes to describe as a “family tragedy” - would go on to shock, unsettle, and terrify audiences all over the world....

It’s a strange time for the WWE. While it’s undoubtedly the premier wrestling brand in the world, the quality of its roster has gone through a dip over the past few years. The Disney live-action remakes are starting to get bolder with their changes from the original animated source material. This year’s Dumbo saw the biggest changes yet, with the movie focusing much more on Colin Farrell’s character than everyone’s favorite flying elephant while two years ago, The Jungle Book was much more about the visuals, keeping the story basically the same. Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin sits nicely in between the two with the key plot and character points staying largely the same while other changes throughout creating a more balanced and up to date film....

James Cameron has undoubtedly left his massive footprint on the movie industry. Aside from producing high-grossing films such as Titanic and Avatar, he also impacted the sci-fi scene with a killer sequel to Ridley Scott’s Alien and, of course, kickstarted the Terminator franchise with the two best films in the series. However, the Terminator films are more than desperate heroes attempting to survive an unstoppable killing machine. At the core of the series, there is a beating heart underneath that shiny exoskeleton....

The most difficult part of a story to nail down is the conclusion. Everything in the film has been leading up to this moment, and if the audience doesn’t get a satisfying payoff, the movie could be doomed. Certain moviegoers love finality in the narrative, and prefer if they understand exactly what happened to the characters during the fateful third act. Sometimes, the director likes to throw viewers for a loop and craft an ambiguous finale that keeps everyone guessing....

Judd Apatow’s brilliant creation Undeclared hosted some of the best comedy actors out there; from Seth Rogen appearing in every episode as college freshman Ron, to Amy Poehler’s three-episode arc as Top Floor R.A. Hilary, and Jason Segel’s perfect portrayal as “crazed boyfriend” Eric, there was never a shortage of hilarious headliners amongst the eighteen episodes of Undeclared. Much like its Freaks and Geeks counterpart, this 2001 cult classic features some surprising guest stars throughout its one season....
