Don’t call her Nymphadora, but don’t think you know everything about Tonks, either, if you have only seen her in the Harry Potter films! While Natalia Tena is a lovely actress, she just wasn’t given the time or space to develop into the Tonks readers know and love from the Harry Potter series, a complaint that many fans had of the films. She’s never truly explained and exists more as an Easter egg for readers than a fully developed character....

We’re still months away from seeing how the final season of HBO’s mega-hit Game of Thrones will end. While we wait, we’ve all been curious about the mysterious Game of Thrones prequel that’s currently in development. This is because none of us can get enough of George R.R. Few shows thrill, shock, horrify, and delight their fans quite like American Horror Story does. The first Final Fantasy game was clearly based upon Dungeons & Dragons. The resemblance was so strong that they had to change one of the enemies before the game could be released in America, lest they be sued. Much like Dungeons & Dragons, the Final Fantasy series is filled with dungeons, each one like a maze, filled with random encounters against monsters, and conveniently placed treasure chests. These locations form the backbone of the RPG genre....

Thanks to the emergence of popular fantasy and supernatural shows in the 1990s (i.e. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Charmed, and Twin Peaks), viewers got a chance to explore very atypical scenarios and storylines. Shows surrounding mythological tales, historical figures and fictional monster surged in ratings, leading networks to try to develop the same winning formula. However, for every Highlander and Xena: Warrior Princess, there were dozens of shows that simply fell flat....

Over the course of eight seasons, there were plenty of characters that came and went on The Vampire Diaries. Some were memorable and had meaningful connections or relationships with the main characters and also advanced the plot in entertaining and exciting ways, but that wasn’t the case for everyone. In some cases, characters were so entwined in forgettable or lousy plots that you wanted to forget they existed. It even seemed like the show wanted to pretend they were never around....

For almost as long as there have been movies, there have been crazy fan theories to go along with them. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences not only invited a record number of 928 new members, but is seeing through on their promise to put much more of their focus on diversity. Having been criticized in the past for having a predominantly white and male majority, the Academy’s Board of Governors has made substantial changes this year. Founded in 1927, the Academy is an honorary organization created to help improve and advance the arts and sciences within the film industry....

Season 3 of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues to roll out action packed episodes each week. Each new installment delivering the promise of fan-craved nods to Marvel comic book lore via the introduction of familiar comic book characters - and without neglecting both character development and the opportunity to utilize the human versus Inhuman conflict on the show (as a metaphor for real social issues). It’s no secret that the DC Extended Universe has had a harder time at the box office than the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is mostly due to wildly inconsistent tone between movies and storylines that had seeds of greatness but were chopped into pieces during the edit by executives with differing goals than the creators of each movie. Man of Steel established a dark tone for the DCEU that set the stage for the later movies, even though the most recent films (like Aquaman) have tried to step away and form their own identity as movies that aren’t afraid to include adventure and comedy....

Baltimore-based filmmaker John Waters has had a long career as a master provocateur. A fixture of the midnight movie scene of the 1970s who gained prominence with his “Trilogy of Trash” before a blush with mainstream acceptability with 1988’s Hairspray, Waters is as good at creating memorable characters as he is offending delicate sensibilities. Working frequently with friends and fellow artists he assembled from his friend group growing up in Maryland (collectively known as “The Dreamlanders”) Waters had a real skill in drawing madly stylized performances out of people, none of which are more incredible and iconic than those of Divine, the rotund drag performer who starred in many of his vehicles....

A lot of the franchises that we’ve come to know and love have been derived from source material such as novels or comic books. Chief among these franchises is the young adult genre. Young adult material is also easy enough to adapt to the big or small screen as the characters are relatable to the target audience. The progression from younger themes to more adult-oriented themes is another reason why young adult franchises work....
