Trying to scare movie-goers is a pretty thankless task these days. The horror genre has to work harder than ever to produce any kind of reaction from an audience who’ve seen it all before. Done properly, a skilled director can still leave us scarred for life with a well delivered shock. When done badly, they’re more likely to elicit an exasperated eye-roll or, much worse, laughter. But the scary scenes in non-horror movies are sometimes the most terrifying, precisely because they have no business being there and are completely unexpected....

Often budgeting issues have a huge impact on whether or not a film gets made, but there are plenty of other reasons that would-be films can’t make it off the ground - or into theaters. Thank the Old Gods and the New, as Season 6 of Game of Thrones is almost upon us and threatens to dominate all of our waking discussion once more. We should be in line for another big season, with lots of chess pieces on the move, sex galore, and violent, unexpected murders. It’s probably not a bad thing that none of us ever lived in Westeros. We’re optimistically anticipating a theme of revenge this season, as the more morally righteous characters, or at least those that are fan favorites, finally start to emerge from the knee-deep sludge they’ve trudged through for years and find some success and happiness at long-last....

The differences between American and British humor are quite stark, with the former generally being considered to be way more accessible and relatable… for obvious reasons. However, this perception is somewhat warped, especially given the fact that a large portion of American sitcoms are inspired by their British counterparts (The Office is perhaps the most notable example of this). The dry humor and wittiness present in British sitcoms might be somewhat hard to digest in the first go — especially given the rapid pace at which jokes are delivered and the seemingly complicated nature of some gags — but people who have stuck through the large majority of British sitcoms can attest to the fact that these shows are devilishly hilarious and unexpectedly clever, featuring some absolutely stellar writing to keep the entertainment factor constant throughout....

Horror, as a genre, requires a deft touch to make an impactful movie. For every fantastic horror movie out there that frightens you and leaves you shivering at every dark corner you see for the rest of the night, there are a dozen stinkers that fail to leave any kind of impression. With the mixed ratio and seemingly endless number of unimaginative, derivative gore flicks out there, it makes it even more of a shame that these 10 visionary filmmakers have never tried their hand at making a horror movie....

Both Parks and Recreation and The Office are some of the best comedies to have aired on television and there’s a reason that each show has its large fan bases. The Office and Parks and Recreation have a lot in common as both look at the interpersonal relationships of close-knit employees in an office environment and both use a mockumentary setup.
