10 Best Highbrow Horror Movies Of The 2010S Ranked

Not your typical chillers, these are the movies for people who like their horror extra fancy. From world-class directors, and with very few actual kills (if any at all), these movies focus more on social anxieties than they do on hatchet-wielding maniacs and/or the supernatural. If you’re looking to widen your palate a little bit, or maybe impress someone with your discerning taste in movies, this is the list for you....

10 Canceled Twists That Would Ve Saved Movies And 10 That Would Ve Hurt Them

There’s nothing quite so enjoyable in a movie than a well-executed plot twist. When filmmakers are able to catch their audience off-guard by taking the narrative in an unexpected new direction, it can be an exciting, suspenseful moment. Interestingly, cinematic history is filled with films that would have benefited from the inclusion of a major plot twist, only for this element to be abandoned prior to release. It actually makes a lot of sense: a plot twist – which asks us to question everything we thought we knew about a movie – can prove controversial, so omitting them is often a safer bet....

12 Cinematic Universes Currently In Development

This was bound to happen. Joss Whedon’s super smash The Avengers took in over a billion dollars at the box office in 2012, demolishing competition with five franchises coming together under one collective tent. Dating back to 2008, it was a gutsy move on the part of Marvel Studios, who played it smart, took their time, and wound up reaping the benefits that come with a shared superhero world. Now, the term “cinematic universe” has become a cultural staple, thrown around as frequently as “sequel” and “spinoff” with even more in the way of anticipation....

12 Heroes Captain Marvel Is Close To And 8 She Can T Stand

Marvel and Disney will introduce Captain Marvel to the world in 2019 with the next Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. Over her tenure in Marvel Comics, Carol Danvers has had a very interesting history: her father was a U.S. Navy officer and her mother was a Kree champion; she joined the Air Force at the age of 18 before moving onto NASA where she befriended Mar-Vell, the first Captain Marvel; and she was then involved in an accident that gave her superhuman powers, where she took on the name Ms....

12 Tv Shows That Changed Their Premise Partway Through

“Well, I’ve been afraid of changing / ‘Cause I’ve built my life around you,” Fleetwood Mac once sang. Hopefully they weren’t singing about television shows, because there’s no point expecting those to refrain from changing. Most television shows morph and develop over time, subtly shifting as their characters grow and change. A comedy program might start off fairly grounded, but then up the goof factor once the audience is familiar with the characters....

12 X Men Villains That Could Follow Apocalypse

Looking past upcoming franchise movies is something of a tradition these days. When the franchise is the X-Men, which arguably kick-started the super hero movie revolution back in 2000, it’s safe to say there’s life in the mutant dog yet. We all know that Professor X’s team of mutant superheroes is set to face off against Apocalypse, the first mutant, in the next entry of the long-running franchise, but there’s still room in the franchise for many villains from the comic book’s past to make an appearance....

13 Worst Movies To Win Best Picture At The Oscars

Film will always be a subjective medium. What films some people consider classics, others sometimes consider the worst films of all time. There really isn’t a set criteria of what a “Best Picture” should be, but we can all agree that sometimes, the Oscars just don’t get it right. We can usually forgive them on getting Best Acting or Editing wrong, but when it comes to Best Picture, the Academy seems to be off the mark, quite frequently....

14 Most Misleading Movie Trailers Of All Time

Some trailers prove that marketing companies will do just about anything in order to sell a movie. It’s bad enough leaving the theater of one of the most anticipated funny movies to find that the trailer has spoiled all of the good gags, but sometimes previews can mislead audiences entirely, promising an experience that the film just does not deliver. Trailers and television spots are designed to excite viewers about upcoming attractions, but sometimes they can be deceiving for moviegoers....

15 Superheroes Who Were Allowed To Age

It’s an accepted fact that superheroes never age. After all, how could these superior beings retain their god-like status if they succumbed to the affects of time like the rest of us? They just don’t get older — and it’s never talked about, either. But every now and then, the creative folks behind the biggest superheroes decide to imagine “What if?” What if superheroes aged like the rest of us? There are few items in the DC Universe that are more powerful than the various power rings that have been bestowed to the Lanterns that roam the galaxy. When the different colors of the power rings are reflecting certain emotions like greed or fear, for instance, it’s only natural that certain evil individuals are going to end up personifying those traits....

A Quiet Place Movie Review

A Quiet Place lives up to the ambitious challenge that it sets for itself, taking audiences on a compelling and suspenseful journey along the way. The third feature-length film directed by John Krasinski (aka. Jim from The Office), A Quiet Place is an excellent example of how to take a simple premise - monsters that hunt using sound - and flesh it out into a lean, mean creature feature with solid human drama at its core....
