In the summer of 1993, Steven Spielberg sent Jurassic Park stomping into theaters, and audiences weren’t prepared for its exciting mix of action, thrills, adventure, and horror. The king of blockbusters like E.T. and Jaws had managed to make a film that had heart as well as bite, and the movie based on Michael Crichton’s best-selling novel about dino mutation became a mega hit. But much like comparing a T-Rex to the Indominus Rex of Jurassic World, there are aspects of the first entry in the Jurassic Park franchise that seem a little antiquated and a little archaic when juxtaposed against their newer counterparts....

Back when MTV was still “about the music, man” they helped bring a new storytelling apparatus to the masses: the music video. Occasionally criticized by film school teachers and ex-VJs as being “the lowest form of art,” they enjoyed a steady boom through the ’80s and ’90s. The bands got more famous, and the world got more Carson Daly. Less prevalent, and certainly less recognizable in a modern television landscape, today’s music videos are quickly forgotten unless they’re offensive....

RuPaul’s Drag Race has now been on air for ten seasons on networks such as Logo and VH1. Furthermore, the Drag Race platform has now introduced over one hundred drag queens to a global audience. Comic book fans often have a favorite superhero character. They often love these characters exactly as they are and often don’t want to see them changed even a little bit. Being true to the character is what it’s all about - except when creative fans want to experiment with their favorite characters. This is why cosplay and fan art is such a beloved pastime. Updated versions of heroes are great. However, updated versions of heroes as their own evil alter egos area lot better....

How strange it is that a game that is about comrades beating the tar out of each other is an experience that’s able to bring so many together in celebration. The Super Smash Bros. series was a unique idea upon the debut of the first game in the franchise, and it continues to be a black sheep amongst fighting games and similar genres. There’s just something about the games that are so viscerally enjoyable and magical....

There are so many elements that go into making a movie– and therefore so many things that can go wrong– it can sometimes seem impossible any of them ever end up being great. Even movies that have a talented cast, a terrific director, a well-written screenplay, and a compelling and timeless story can fail to find the right formula to produce an amazing cinematic experience. This is why it’s even more impressive when a fantastic movie manages to achieve greatness despite a total dud of a performance....

Messaging is a core part of any smartphone, and it’s something that Apple has really nailed with the iPhone and iMessage. Googlers have voiced their frustration recently over how Apple uses iMessage as a tool for lock-in and while Apple’s resistance to RCS and other cross-platform standards is certainly annoying, the context of Google’s countless failures in messaging don’t really help the company’s case. The fourth season thus far has been an exciting one, with the MCU’s first television show continuing its evolution. Last week we finally got to see members of S.H.I.E.L.D. interact with Robbie Reyes’ Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna), as Mack (Henry Simmons) and Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) were trying to prevent the newly awakened ghosts from destroying a research facility, while the Rider arrived to look evil in the eye....

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 is heading toward its finale, so we discuss the possibility that Gabriel Luna might return as Ghost Rider. At the start of season 4, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. introduced Luna as Ghost Rider Robbie Reyes. Though Johnny Blaze is the most well known Ghost Rider from the Marvel Comics, Robbie is another popular incarnation of the character. Ghost Rider became a fan-favorite addition to Agents of S....

Making a movie is a strenuous task that can take a toll on even the greatest of filmmakers. Sometimes, a director will spend years working on a project, overseeing everything from the earliest stages of pre-production to the final moments of post. After pouring over hours upon hours of footage and overanalyzing each frame, they’re happy to finally share their film with the world. But sometimes, filmmakers wish they had taken one more look before locking the picture....

Umbrella Academy was the first of Netflix’s adaptations of a Dark Horse Comic, and it was received extremely well. Numbers show that the the show has been a hit for the streaming service, and they are eager to continue their partnership with the comic company. Umbrella Academy was extremely gripping and well done, and showed that Netflix can have massive success with superhero properties outside of Marvel. Now that Disney will be launching Disney+, all future Marvel television will inevitably make its way towards their own streaming service....

Kevin Feige took the stage at San Diego Comic-Con and delivered a ton of information regarding the upcoming projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was confirmed that the next two years would consist of the entire Phase 4. This includes films like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love And Thunder, The Eternals, and Black Widow, as well as Disney + shows like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Hawkeye, and Loki....

There is definitely no shortage of true crime films, and they are usually either created in a very respectable way, or they completely slaughter and sully their inspirations. A good true crime movie always shows respect to the tragic story that inspired it. The bad true crime movies are almost always disrespectful and use the tragedy to their advantage. Nevertheless, a good true crime film can be a fun and immersive time investment....

Creepy dolls are an age-old horror movie trope. From Child’s Play’s Chucky to the creepy doll from Dolly Dearest, there is no shortage of films that revolved around possessed and/or evil children’s toys. There were many creepy aspects from the first Conjuring film that would have made decent spin-off movies, but the crew ultimately chose Annabelle. The first film to revolve completely around Annabelle hit theatres in 2014. This film - titled Annabelle - is widely regarded as one of the worst Conjuring installments....

The Walt Disney Company has been around since 1923 and continually blows its fans away with intricate, beautiful, animated films rich with family values and impressive, overarching themes. The amount of thought that goes into a Disney film is quite amazing, and very rarely does the company get it wrong. Still, even the Mouse House is capable of producing a mediocre film every once in a while, and unfortunately, it’s happened quite a few times in the past, at least in critics’ eyes....
