Yo-Yo finally achieves her comic book look in a new image for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ABC’s (now) lone Marvel series received a major overhaul for season 5. The team went to the future and space, but are now attempting to settle back into their previously “normal” lives. The trip back to the present came with new knowledge: the earth is going to be destroyed. While Quake (Chloe Bennet) was believed to be the culprit, no one truly knows what will happen. Yo-Yo (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) is the most in the know, having talked to another version of herself from the time loop. In doing so, she’s clued in to how Coulson’s life (or rather death) lies at the heart of the earth’s destiny.

After being introduced in the back half of season 3, Yo-Yo has grown to be a prominent member of S.H.I.E.L.D. and become close to Mack. She’s also a regular fighter in the field, utilizing her speed to get the advantage. Unfortunately, the last time she was in combat, she lost both of her arms in the process. Fans of her in the comics immediately theorized that S.H.I.E.L.D. was finally ready to give her the same look from the page - and now, the show has.

IGN exclusively revealed an image from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 5 episode 16 (titled ‘Inside Voices’) that reveals Yo-Yo’s new look (see the photo below). As set up in previous episodes, the arms come from robot drones that Mack defeated. Now, they have been given a sleek makeover for Yo-Yo’s purposes and seem pretty convincing for a TV budget. Not only is this great payoff for fans, it’s also something that Cordova has been requesting on the series “for years,” according to co-showrunner Jed Whedon.

Giving Yo-Yo this look is obviously a big moment for the character, but it’s important for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a larger sense too. The showrunners have openly talked about how they’re writing the season 5 finale as a suitable series finale too. If they didn’t give Yo-Yo her robotic arms now, there’s a chance that they never would have gotten to do just that.

This isn’t the first time the series has given a major character robotic appendages, either. Coulson, to be exact, has had his bionic limb for a few seasons now. Yo-Yo will surely go through some of the same growing pains and the adjustments period that Phil did before her. She’s probably doing just that in this image above, based on her attire and the gym bike in the background. Hopefully though, this is the start of Yo-Yo’s return to the bigger fight at hand.
