Spoilers for the midseason finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
-
Though the midseason finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. left behind the future reality, it might not be the last we’ve seen of characters like Flint. The fifth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. took quite a leap by bringing its characters not only into space but the future as well. Thanks to the conceit, the Kree were brought back into the fold for their biggest role in the MCU. We were also introduced to Flint, a NuHuman from Charles Soule’s run in the comics. And given his geokinesis, Flint may be able to fix the broken world.
Barring a repair in the future, most of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s characters returned home. Still, there were losses in the forms of Deke, Enoch, and future Yo Yo. But given how often the show cycles back to previous plot threads—like the Kree, the Monoliths, and the idea of reviving people from the dead—it seems unlikely we won’t see some of these characters again. The logistics off how that would work aren’t clear, but time travel on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is certainly something interesting. And in the end, many fans are likely eager to see more of Flint, Tessa, and the other future humans and Inhumans.
EW spoke with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen about whether Flint and the gang will ever return to the show. And while they naturally wouldn’t spoil anything, they did hint that it’s in the cards.
Flint has grown in prominence since being introduced after Black Bolt’s Terrigen Bomb ignited the latent Inhuman population of Earth. From serving with other NuHumans to fighting against the X-Men, the last we saw of the character he was off on a mission with Medusa and other key Inhumans to uncover the mystery of their race. The comic sees Flint gain some interesting new powers, including the ability to move an entire planet. It also hints his future will see some big things happen for the Inhuman.
“It seems those characters have made their way into everyone’s heart, so it is a possibility."
Seeing how often Marvel matches their comics to the MCU, including adding most of the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to the page, this could mean Flint will have a more prominent role on the show. With the characters back on Earth, the trailer for the midseason return of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. teases they’ll be public enemy number one even as the Kree move towards their invasion effort. With so much at stake, having a shaper of worlds back in the fold could certainly be a boon.
