Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is kicking off a new art program to celebrate its upcoming episode 100. While Marvel’s flagship TV show has never posted amazing numbers ratings-wise, it’s kept pace with other superhero shows while consistently gaining additional critical acclaim with each season. As such, it’s no surprise that Disney saved Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. from cancellation ahead of season 5. It also means the show will hit the magical syndication number of 100 episodes, and we’ve heard big things are in store for the momentous occasion.
The continuation of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for another year has also allowed the show to push into even deeper comic book territory this year. Already bringing time travel and more aliens into the mix, this past week’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. brought extra cosmic chaos into the MCU and continued to tie things back into the show’s past. It’s been hinted that episode 100 could see the team back in their time on Earth, teasing that this season will break things up into plot arcs yet again. Regardless of where the characters are, however, it seems safe to assume some big surprises and callbacks await fans.
Marvel has announced a new art program that will feature five new posters highlighting some of the biggest moments from each season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. so far. The first piece focuses on 4 major events from season 1 of the show and was illustrated by Dale Keown. Check it out, below:
In the image we most prominently see Ward after he kills Victoria Hand. The moment was a shocking as the reveal in Captain America: The Winter Soldier that Hydra had infiltrated SHIELD, and it helped breathe new life into the series and the somewhat bland Ward. We also see the revelation that Coulson returned from the dead thanks to the blood of an alien (consequently, the first appearance of the Kree in the MCU as well). Rounding out the key moments is the Skye/Daisy being discovered by Coulson and Ward at the onset of the series and Fitz declaring his love for Simmons as they both face death at the bottom of the ocean during the season 1 finale.
The posters will be joined by variant covers for Marvel’s March titles, once again tying the show into the world of the comics. Along with Coulson jumping from the movies to comics, the MCU creations of Fitz, Simmons, Ward, and May have all been added to the page. What’s more, most SHIELD stories now heavily focus on the characters from the show and Daisy Johnson has even been retconned as an Inhuman.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. use art to promote the show. Each season has featured a comic book-style poster, but season 2 went even further with unique pieces of art ahead of each new episode. While we won’t be getting that much content this time around, the project is still a fun way to look back on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as it heads towards its 100th episode.
