Agent Carter, the series following Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), is airing its second season on ABC during the season 3 winter hiatus of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Prior to its midseason finale - which saw an early form of the Secret Warriors team and a shake up in terms of Grant Ward’s (Brett Dalton) character - Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 had been dealing with the emergence of Inhumans all around the world and the development of the ATCU.

When season 3 returns, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will deal with the fallout from the midseason finale, specifically the emotional consequences of Director Coulson’s (Clark Gregg) actions and the impact those actions will have on the team. Additionally, a new Inhuman character will be joining the show, as seen in a first look at the Marvel Comics character Slingshot.

ComicBook.com has released the first look image (below) of Natalia Cordova-Buckley (McFarland, USA) as Elena Rodriguez in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a character described as “a street-wise Colombian woman given Inhuman abilities.” She’s based on the Marvel Comics character Slingshot from the Secret Warriors series, who also goes by Yo-Yo. True to her codename and nickname, Rodriguez is able to move at super speed and snap back to her starting point.

The Secret Warriors team on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been a slow building process, first sparking interest in viewers when Skye (Chloe Bennett) was revealed to be Daisy Johnson a.k.a. Quake in season 2. Throughout the first part of season 3, Daisy lobbied S.H.I.E.L.D. for a team made up of Inhuman members. Eventually she was given the green light and recruited Lincoln (Luke Mitchell) and Joey (Juan Pablo Raba) to her team.

We can’t tell much about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s take on Slingshot from this image, or how her powers will be depicted on the show in addition to those of Daisy and Lincoln. Additionally, it’s unclear whether the show will adapt the storyline from Marvel’s Secret Warriors series in which her arms were cut off and replaced by cybernetic prosthetics.

That being said, the first look image does hint Elena Rodriguez has had some gun training and may use it in a meeting with the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents in the second half of season 3. If the show does follow some of Slingshot’s storyline, she will likely be recruited to Daisy’s team. Whether Elena has come to terms with her powers or has only recently been transformed into an Inhuman when viewers meet her (as we saw with Joey’s introducing in the season premiere) - as well as how her character will fit with the team if she does join the Secret Warriors - remains to be seen.
