While the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. once spent their time tracking down rogue technology and the odd person with special abilities, the show’s third season saw it begin to stray into more ambitious territory, with Skye a.k.a. Daisy a.k.a. Quake making efforts to form her own team of Inhumans and guide them tp use their newfound powers for good. Of course, this plan proved to be easier in theory than in execution.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 also went out of this world as S.H.I.E.L.D and Hydra raced to unravel the secrets of a portal to another planet, Maveth, inhabited only by a lone, stranded astronaut and a malevolent exiled Inhuman. After both factions made the trip out to Maveth, Phil Coulson finally managed to take down Hydra leader Grant Ward, but viewers got a nasty surprise when it transpired that Ward’s body had become possessed by Maveth’s ancient and terrifying Inhuman prisoner, who then successfully made the trip back to Earth.

Needless to say, S.H.I.E.L.D. is going to have a lot to deal with in the latter half of this season: Inhumans still popping up all over the globe, a new Big Bad in town, and Hydra still lurking in the shadows. A new promo for the upcoming midseason premiere, “Bouncing Back”, name drops the Secret Warriors (Quake’s team of Inhumans) and shows them using their powers against a new collection of equally superpowered villains.

Zombie Ward is back as well, looking a little worse for wear and not unlike he just stepped out of the “Thriller” music video. A brief clip showing the return of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s longest-standing villain shows that death hasn’t dampened Ward’s enthusiasm for taking off his shirt, which in turn reveals that he’s still carrying around a nasty mark from Coulson’s cybernetic hand.  While Ward fans will no doubt be glad to have him back, it’s unclear just how long the Inhuman will want to wear this particular disguise. After all, it won’t be long before Ward starts to fall apart, and there’s no shortage of bodies on Earth.

The promo also offers a look at new character Elena Rodriguez a.k.a. Slingshot (Natalia Cordova-Buckley) using her powers in a face-off against Mack. Slingshot has to ability to move at super-speed and then return to her original position in the blink of an eye - something that could prove valuable if she chooses to become part of the Secret Warriors, or very dangerous if she decides to work against them.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns Tuesday March 8th @9pm on ABC.
