[SPOILERS for those not caught up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ahead.]

-

After taking last night off for the Vice Presidential debate, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return next Tuesday for its third episode of the season. The fourth season thus far has been an exciting one, with the MCU’s first television show continuing its evolution. Last week we finally got to see members of S.H.I.E.L.D. interact with Robbie Reyes’ Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna), as Mack (Henry Simmons) and Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) were trying to prevent the newly awakened ghosts from destroying a research facility, while the Rider arrived to look evil in the eye. In this exchange, we also finally saw Daisy (Chloe Bennett) reunited with Mack, her old partner, albeit for a short period of time.

The second episode ended with a bang, with Daisy and Reyes seeming to team up to down the ghosts, while presumably attempting to figure out their connection to the Watchdogs. Of course, there is plenty to look forward to on the S.H.I.E.L.D. side of things as well, with the recent reveal that Jason O’Mara’s Director character is indeed Jeff Mace aka Patriot. Further, we will have to see what steps are taken to cure May (Ming-Na Wen) of her disturbing visions after making contact with one of the ghosts. But what we have all been waiting for is finally seeing Coulson and team interact with Ghost Rider. And we may get our wish in two weeks.

Marvel has recently released new images (via CBR) for the fourth episode of the season titled ‘Let Me Stand Next To Your Fire’. You can see the images as well as the episode’s synopsis below:

[vn_gallery name=“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4” id=“815037”]

“As Ghost Rider’s quest for vengeance brings him into an explosive confrontation with S.H.I.E.L.D., Coulson and Mack must rely on an unlikely ally in their time of desperate need; and Daisy reunites with a familiar face to stop the Watchdogs.”

While the images do not actually show members of S.H.I.E.L.D. face to face with Robbie Reyes, we do see one image of Reyes standing in front of a fire, and several with Coulson, Mack, and Simmons, gazing at what appears to be a flames. It is likely in this exchange where Coulson and his team will come face to face with Ghost Rider. Notably absent from the images is Daisy, who, as teased in the synopsis, will be teaming with a familiar face to stop the Watchdogs. The most likely candidate is James aka Hellfire (Axle Whitehead), who appeared in season 3 as an Inhuman and eventual ally to Hive. According to Comic Book, Whitehead is scheduled to guest star in this episode, so in all likelihood he is either Coulson’s unlikely ally, or Daisy’s.

Assuming Hellfire is who Daisy teams with and not Coulson (though Coulson could be looking to fight fire with fire), the most interesting question is who will the former director be turning to in his time of need? Several of the above images show Coulson at a prison, presumably seeking some inmates help. While no obvious candidate comes to mind, it is likely someone we have seen on the show in a prior season, or less likely, but more fun, in the movies. We’ll find out for sure in two weeks.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues with ‘Uprising’ Tuesday, October 11 at 10pm on ABC.
