Season 3 of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues to roll out action packed episodes each week. Each new installment delivering the promise of fan-craved nods to Marvel comic book lore via the introduction of familiar comic book characters - and without neglecting both character development and the opportunity to utilize the human versus Inhuman conflict on the show (as a metaphor for real social issues).

Despite the show’s growth, the most fan craved plot development has been frustratingly teased but not yet fully realized: Daisy ‘Quake’ Johnson’s (Chloe Bennett) Secret Warriors team, mission ready and kicking some Hydra ass. Well as two new sneak peek clips released from upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. episode “The Team” reveal, the showrunners have been saving this satisfying event for the last quarter of the season, now that the Hive (Brett Dalton) boosted Hydra threat is in full, octo-headed nightmare mode. Watch the first clip above and the second below:

S.H.I.E.L.D orbits around the big screen Avengers movies, responding to the events depicted and offering a more detailed perspective on the consequences of these events (through the format a series offers) to help fill out the mythos of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show’s unique position within the MCU offers untold plot opportunities that are examined through the eyes of the secret government team that try to fight the threat of alien technology and the evil factions seeking to misuse it on Earth.

The current faction causing the biggest threat is long-time S.H.I.E.L.D nemesis; Hydra, with its ancient-alien-mythology-personified leader Hive calling the evil shots. With the most recent Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode having ended on the cliffhanger where the main S.H.I.E.L.D team had been captured at a Hydra base, “The Team” is an excellent opportunity for Daisy to assemble her untested Inhuman menagerie for their first major sink or swim mission. The first clip sets up the action with Daisy rising to the leadership challenge, bringing solid motivational speech giving skills. The second allows a glimpse of each Secret Warrior utilizing their impressive, individual powers as they infiltrate the enemy base.

These clips will certainly be tantalizing offerings for those who have been patiently waiting for some real Secret Warrior action since the concept was first hinted at in S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s season 2 finale. The writers’ decision to make this a long game sub-plot over season 3 has allowed for Daisy to continue her character growth, maneuvering into the role as the key leader character next to Clark Gregg’s patriarchal Agent Coulson. A young female protagonist with a special power and evil combating mission is after all a theme that the Whedonverse does best, as is a courage will prevail over adversity, character proving mission. These themes applied to S.H.I.E.L.D could make for some incredibly satisfying viewing ahead as the Season creeps towards its May 17th finale episode.

Dropping the Secret Warriors in at the deep end for the second time this season should make “The Team” a highly exciting and game changing episode, but if the conflict provided is not testing or possibly….. fatal enough for all of the S.H.I.E.L.D characters, it could end up feeling unrealistic and possibly a little contrived. Could the death of a team member Daisy saw in her future vision be coming sooner than expected?

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 3 will continue with ‘The Team’ on Tuesday, April 19th.
