[SPOILERS for those not caught up on Agents of SH.I.E.L.D. ahead.]

One of the big promises of season 3 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was the formation of the Secret Warriors. This came hot off the heels of Skye becoming Daisy Johnson aka Quake, the leader of the team in the comics. The show went on to bring Natalia Cordova-Buckley onboard as the speedster Elena ‘Yo-Yo’ Rodriguez, but no other Secret Warriors members have yet to debut. The team had a trail run with Daisy, Yo-Yo, Lincoln, and Joey, but it was short-lived and only Daisy and Yo-Yo remain involved with S.H.I.E.L.D., seemingly as hired guns.

Moving into season 4, it has been Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna) that has stolen the show - and started campaigns across the internet for him to get his own series. He has largely been working with Daisy to find his evil uncle - but when the midseason finale airs, he will be joining the show’s two powered female agents.

Marvel has released a new clip from the midseason finale ‘The Laws of Inferno Dynamics’, bringing Ghost Rider, Daisy, and Yo-Yo together to investigate a building that they believe is the base of operations for Eli. The clip gives Yo-Yo (who has had the least amount of screen time of the three heroes) a chance to shine as she zips through the hallways to try and unravel the danger that awaits.

The midseason finale will bring Robbie back in the presence of his misleading uncle Eli and by the look of this clip alone, he is well prepared for S.H.I.E.L.D.’s attack. Once Yo-Yo runs down the hall far enough, she splashes what appears to be gasoline that causes the hallway to go up in flames. Interestingly enough, instead of Yo-Yo’s power automatically slingshotting her back to where she began her run, she instead has to turn around and try and outrun the fire outburst.

Why this alteration of her powers or visual style in which this scene takes place is not revealed, but it does show that Eli has potentially boobytrapped his entire base. However, it is possible that any of the three superheroes could make it out of this instance alone. Quake could use her abilities to potentially blow the fire down the hall in the opposite direction and Ghost Rider presumably should not be harmed by fire.

Either way, it appears that they’re building up Eli a bit more as a plotting villain before his clash with Ghost Rider. With this being the midseason finale, the impending duel could leave the fates of one or more characters up in the air - making viewers wait months for the midseason premiere to have that answered. This clip alone begins to set up the stakes of that should be present in the finale and hopefully, the results deliver on this setup.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 continues Tuesday, December 6 with ‘The Laws of Inferno Dynamics’ at 10pm on ABC.
