While Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is setting up an exhilarating midseason finale, ‘Maveth’, that will continue to develop the show’s third season storyline dealing with Inhumans and a newly reorganized Hydra, ABC is preparing to roll out season 2 of Agent Carter near the beginning of next year. The midseason show was originally set to debut early in January but has since been pushed two weeks back due to the State Of The Union address.
Still, ABC has already debuted a trailer for Peggy Carter’s (Hayley Atwell) second outing, this time in the sunny California city of Los Angeles. Additional promos have showcased Marvel’s original team and some of the series’ new characters. Now, a new poster for Agent Carter sets the tone of season 2 and brings the focus back to Peggy.
IGN released the poster (below), which features a gun-toting Peggy in a dark and moody noir-style one-sheet. The key art brings back Peggy’s blue dress and red hat combo featured in a similar noir poster for season 1. However, the art for season 2 features a short-sleeved version of the blue dress, plus the red sunglasses showcased in the promos, and of course this time we can see Peggy’s face.
Take a look at the key art:
Season 2 will transplant Peggy from New York City to Los Angeles, where the show’s executive producers/showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas have teased a “glamor and grit” storyline inspired by noir films. Additionally speaking on the season’s noir inspirations, Atwell has said she is reminded of L.A. Confidential, adding that there is a “dark glamor” to Peggy’s second adventure. Though much of what we’ve seen from season 2 in trailers and promos has focused on the glamorous side of Agent Carter’s L.A. run, there are hints to the darker aspects the showrunners and Atwell have teased - especially highlighted by this season’s villain, Marvel Comics’ Madame Masque (played by Wynn Everett), who is described as an actress/inventor.
Of course, while the noir style of Agent Carter was established in season 1, the show will likely draw comparisons to Marvel’s latest entry to its shared cinematic universe: Jessica Jones. The new Netflix series also features a noir tone, albeit set in a modern day Hell’s Kitchen New York, that takes viewers down a much darker path than we should expect from Agent Carter. Still, although both Agent Carter and Jessica Jones may share noir inspirations, the two shows are different enough to appeal to their own audiences - which will have some overlap. For those fans excited to see Agent Carter’s second season, this new key art hints that they should expect another season of noir-inspired adventures for Peggy set in the 1940s.
