Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time marketing continues to dazzle the eye with the release of two new visually stunning posters for Ava DuVernay’s movie. The film itself adapts Madeleine L’Engle’s beloved 1962 sci-fi/fantasy novel as a big-budget adventure, making DuVernay the first woman of color to direct a $100 million live-action tentpole. Further reflecting the project’s commitment to inclusivity on both sides of the camera is a cast spearheaded by Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling, opposite Storm Reid as the film’s young hero.

A Wrinkle in Time is the first Disney release to follow Marvel Studios’ Black Panther becoming a cultural phenomenon and record breaking machine at the box office. The Mickey Mouse studio isn’t expecting DuVernay’s movie to enjoy the same level of success as T’Challa and his friends have, but that isn’t stopping them from giving the movie one final push ahead of its debut in theaters.

Scripted by Frozen writer/director Jennifer Lee, A Wrinkle in Time follows thirteen year old Meg Murry (Reid) as she travels across time/ space in search of her scientist father (Chris Pine) and the dangerous cosmic forces that have captured him. Winfrey, Witherspoon, and Kaling costar as the film’s “fairy godmothers”, a trio of astral passengers that help Meg to navigate the the universe in the hopes of finding her dad and bringing him home, safe and sound. All five characters are featured in the new Doby Cinema and IMAX posters for the film, which you can check out below.

Box Office Pro is projecting a $52 million domestic box office opening for A Wrinkle in Time, and has been for awhile now. The movie cost $103 million to produce, which is a relatively modest amount compared to Black Panther’s $200 million price tag and the budget for most tentpoles nowadays. That also means that A Wrinkle in Time has a much smaller hole to climb out of, as far as breaking even and making a profit goes.

A Wrinkle in Time’s projected opening is more than twice those estimated for next month’s Lara Croft movie reboot Tomb Raider and the Jaegers versus Kajius sequel Pacific Rim Uprising, which open over the following two weeks. Black Panther will be entering its fourth weekend at the box office when DuVernay’s film arrives, so A Wrinkle in Time should be the movie that finally takes the #1 spot from the Marvel superhero. The movie’s next big competitor won’t arrive until the end of March, when Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One hits the scene.

The film’s marketing been dominated by trippy eye candy and colors, and that continues with the latest posters. They may not reveal anything new about the movie’s characters or plot, but they further assure that DuVernay and her collaborators have succeeded at translating the fantastical concepts from L’Engle’s book into a true cinematic spectacle. With A Wrinkle in Time hitting theaters less than two weeks from the time of writing this, it won’t be long before the first reactions to the film start arriving too.
