When acclaimed director Ava DuVernay passed on the opportunity to direct Black Panther for Marvel Studios, many wondered whether the filmmaker could find a project that would match its scope. While it doesn’t have a comic book pedigree, A Wrinkle In Time is a novel that has been read for generations and also has story that spans the galaxy. So, there will certainly still be a lot of eyes on DeVernay’s next big project.
A movie is only as good as its source material and there certainly are much worse places to start than with the classic children’s book. The long awaited big-screen adaptation is finally being brought to life in 2018 by DuVernay (Selma) and was written by Jennifer Lee (Frozen) for the Mouse House, and judging by Disney’s recent track record, this is a movie worth paying attention to.
Time flies when you are having fun and the movie’s production is officially over. The actors have completed their work in front of cameras, and barring reshoots, the film is firmly in the post production phase. In celebration, DuVernay took to Twitter recently to recognize the actors and crew that helped bring her vision for A Wrinkle in Time to life. Here are a few examples:

That’s a wrap on @RowanBlanchard! She joined us for a few days and made a big impression. She’s a real artist with a voice. Thanks, Rowan. ? pic.twitter.com/rr00XTiV5c— Ava DuVernay (@ava) March 12, 2017
That’s a wrap on @LeviZaneMiller for WRINKLE IN TIME. Our leading man. An actor with great power. And a gentleman already. Thanks, Levi! ? pic.twitter.com/UJNW99yeRq— Ava DuVernay (@ava) March 12, 2017
The original novel was written by Madeleine L’Engle and follows Meg Murray, the daughter of a marooned scientist who goes on an inter-dimensional journey to reunite with her father. Young actress Storm Reid (12 Years A Slave) got the opportunity of a lifetime last year, when she was cast as the film’s lead against Levi Miller. While the the project also attracted the talents of Reese Witherspoon (Wild), Oprah Winfrey (Selma), Chris Pine (Wonder Woman), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Beauty and the Beast), Michael Pena (Chips), Zach Galifianakis (The LEGO Batman Movie), Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project), and Rowan Blanchard (Girl Meets World) who is seen in the tweet above.
While there are numerous examples of cinematic classics that have had tumultuous shoots, it never hurts to see that the people in front and behind the camera enjoyed their time contributing to A Wrinkle in Time. It’s equally heartwarming to see how DeVernay took the time to acknowledge a majority of her leading and supporting performers individually. Even making sure to give a shout out to her production crew, who often go overlooked. With this being the director’s first time with major tentpole filmmaking, it seems that she is handling the production with a dynamic charm. Hopefully, there will be a teaser trailer soon, so the world can share in the enthusiasm for the project.
