A new piece of fan art imagines the lineup for an all-female Marvel movie, uniting the superheroines of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a fan-made A-Force poster. As calls for more female-led movies grow, a comic book movie with the exceptional women of Marvel saving the world could be the team-up audiences are clamoring for. On the heels of successful female-led movies, studios are beginning to realize audiences revel in the concept of strong women taking the lead in film. Reboots/revivals of Ghostbusters and Oceans franchises have pulled together all-female, ensemble casts usually reserved for their male counterparts. And Wonder Woman proved female superheroes can deliver with their own solo movies.

Marvel is finally joining the movement as momentum speeds up with Ant-Man and the Wasp hitting theaters this week and Captain Marvel arriving next year. Not stopping there, solo films for Black Widow and Ms. Marvel are reportedly in varied levels of development at Marvel Studios. Recently, Kevin Feige confirmed Captain Marvel will lead the MCU into the foreseeable future of Phase 4, and onward, will bring a diversity of characters composed of more than 50 percent female heroes. With news like that, fans’ imaginations are allowed to run with the possibilities of what may come.

One artist with the username Awesome & Dope Arts on Instagram has pooled such imaginings together into a movie poster envisioning an all-female team-up film. Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel is the central figure, flanked by Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana). Tiered above those three and ready for battle are Nebula (Karen Gillan), Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olson), Wakanda’s Okoye (Danai Gurira) and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson). Take a look below:

All the heroes are emerging from the brilliant light of the A-Force insignia. Now, the idea for such a team-up is hardly one fan’s wishful thinking. The idea was actually brought directly to Kevin Feige with most of the above actors present to deliver the pitch.

There may be some who are not keen on a so-called, ‘Female Avengers’ just for the sake of having a female team-up movie, but the idea isn’t borne solely out of a popular trend. A-Force originally came out of Marvel Comics’s Secret Wars where pretty much every major, female superhero was a member with She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, Medusa, Dazzler, Spider-Woman and Miss America Chavez as the lead characters. A-Force continued post-Secret Wars in Marvel’s All-New, All-Different Marvel Universe with She-Hulk, Captain Marvel, Medusa, Dazzler still onboard but led by a new character, Singularity.

The concept of an all-female team-up is not without precedent in the comics and Marvel Studios has already made it a practice to lean on the source material for story ideas. So imagining an A-Force movie is not, by any means, out of the question, especially when Feige’s recent comments and confirmations on the topic of diversity and female characters are taken into account. Thinking broadly about what may come after Avengers 4, A-Force could, conceivably, be formed out of necessity to take on the next big bad that builds up over time, culminating throughout the Phase 4 films and beyond.
