Paul was shocked about the state of his visa and went to a lawyer to better understand the charges against him. Unfortunately, this is not Paul’s first time being in trouble with the law and running from the cameras.
Paul is 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way’s go-to runaway, which makes interesting TV for viewers, but left many wondering what happened. Viewers first met Paul when he appeared on season 1 and 2 of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, and viewers caught the first glimpse of Paul running away when he told Karine about his criminal record, explaining to her that he had spent time in jail for arson and had a restraining order placed against him by his ex-girlfriend. Before Karine had time to process the information and respond, Paul jumped up and ran away into the forest, saying that Karine didn’t deserve “damaged goods.” On the current season, Paul is now in Brazil with his pregnant wife Karine and trying to file for a permanent residence visa in order to stay in the country with his new family.
Paul received a letter finally telling him the status of his visa, and he was shocked when he read that he had been denied by the Brazilian government the right to stay in the country permanently. Paul was left frantic when he read that he was rejected due to a “crime of terrorism, genocide, a crime against humanity and war crimes" and that he must leave the country in ten days time. This news led to him running away from the cameras again. He has a lengthy record that could have contributed to his visa rejection, and in the most recent episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Paul decided to get help from a Brazilian immigration lawyer.
Paul explained to the lawyer that he does have a lengthy record including arson and threats, but was never charged with terrorism - which he’s told may be a case of a translation error. When filing for the visa, Paul had sent his criminal records along with the visa application. The American records were not translated into Portuguese, meaning they may have been misinterpreted by the Brazilian government.
Paul explained that he had threatened to slash his ex’s tires after she was caught sleeping with another man, which led to Paul being charged with what the US calls “terroristic threats.” This charge doesn’t exist in Brazil and was then misinterpreted as terrorism; and to rectify the situation, an investigation of the charge is possible, though it would take time and money.
Whatever the case may be, Paul has very little chance of overturning the denied visa verdict within the allotted 20 days. This means that fans may witness Paul breaking the news to Karine and coming up with a new plan within that limited amount of time for them to be together before the baby is born. Hopefully, Paul has learned his lesson and will steer clear from the wrong side of the law in the future.
