Ashley Martson of 90 Day Fiancé fame has called it quits from the hit TLC reality show, officially saying goodbye and signing off via her Instagram account. Fans may not be surprised by Ashley’s departure, especially after the rough season she endured.
Ashley was initially featured on season 6 of 90 Day Fiancé where she met her now ex-husband, Jay Smith. Ashley was vacationing in Jamaica with friends when she first fell for Jay, marrying a short time later to begin the K-1 Visa process. During their saga, fans watched as the two tried to make a life for themselves back in Pennsylvania, and their shotgun wedding in Las Vegas left viewers wondering why Ashley ever said “I do” in the first place; it was around the time of their wedding when Jay began to be unfaithful to Ashley. Their relationship started to falter when it became painfully obvious that Jay was drifting and flirting with other women; he had been caught consistently sending messages to other women on Tinder. On season 4 of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, the marriage blew up in both their faces when Ashley was confronted with hard evidence of Jay physically cheating on her at his friend’s barbershop. Ashley finally made the smart, albeit difficult decision to file for divorce.
The spotlight was not bright enough to hold Ashley to one more season of 90 Day Fiancé as the starlet has officially quit the show. She had been saying for a while that she was thinking of leaving the show, and it seems she has finally committed to that decision. However, though she did not give any particular reason for leaving the show behind, she posted a tribute to the TLC crew and producers, saying, “Without all of you, I’m not sure how I would have gotten through some of the hard times. You guys are like family to me!” It would seem that the reason for her leaving may have more to do with her and Jay no longer being married, but she has yet to comment to that extent. On the tell-all of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, Ashley finally admitted that during her marriage she did use Jay’s immigration status as a form of control. Jay tried to spin a story that Ashley was unfaithful in their relationship too, but it seems fans aren’t buying it. The only explanation Ashley gave for her staying with Jay for as long as she did was that she was overloaded with too much medicine from being sick. The couple was clearly tired of one another as Ashley walked out of the interview, leaving with an explanation.
After filing for divorce in April, Ashley’s ex-husband is currently being held in an immigration detention center waiting to hear if he will be deported back to Jamaica. Ashley seems to be on the mend and moving on just fine. Fans of 90 Day Fiancé will have to accept the finale as closure to the Ashley and Jay chronicles; as Ashley always promised to have her revenge on Jay, clearly the time has now come.
