The network upfronts are set to get underway in one week’s time and as that date approaches ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and The CW have made a number of decisions with regard to what shows will have another season come the fall and which have already been axed. This year, there’s still a surprising amount of shows that are on the bubble and more that are simply waiting for official word as to the ultimate fate that everyone’s pretty much already aware of (we’re looking at you, Inhumans).
So far, there aren’t too many surprises with regard to series that have already been canceled. ABC’s The Mayor is perhaps the biggest disappointment in that regard, but for the most part, the likes of 9JKL, Living Biblically, and Valor didn’t seem long for this world from the start. But that leaves plenty of potential surprises in store for series awaiting word on renewal. The biggest surprises (though not necessarily biggest losses for the networks) would be Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Gotham, and Elementary, all of which have cultivated devoted fan bases over the years. FOX’s The Exorcist has garnered strong praise from critics, but it seems unlikely that good reviews will save the show from the chopping block.
