Will Clay Jensen get arrested at the start of 13 Reasons Why season 3 for his involvement with Tyler’s deadly plan? 13 Reasons Why season 2 ended with a monumental cliffhanger that had many viewers wondering about Clay’s (Dylan Minnette) fate moving forward. And so, when 13 Reasons Why season 3 releases (possibly later this year), there will be a lot to discuss.

Much of 13 Reasons Why season 2 focused on the legal battle between Hannah Baker’s parents and Liberty High School. As many of the core characters testified with their involvement in Hannah’s life prior to her suicide, many revelations came to light. The season also further developed supporting characters, such as Tyler Downs (Devin Druid). As Tyler grew angrier as the season went on, it became clear he was going to do something dangerous. After his sexual assault at the hands of fellow classmates, Tyler planned to carry out a school shooting during a dance.

Tyler fully intended to shoot up the dance but other students, including Clay, got wind of the plan. Clay ordered everyone at the dance to stay inside and to lock the doors. He then met Tyler outside and tried to talk him out of carrying out his plan. As sirens could be heard in the distance, Tyler agreed to stand down and got in Tony’s car, and the two drove away. Clay was left standing outside of the school with Tyler’s gun in his hands as the police seemingly arrive on the scene. So does that mean that Clay will take the fall for Tyler in season 3?

Throughout the first two seasons of 13 Reasons Why, it was made clear that Clay likes to protect people. He wouldn’t forgive himself for not protecting Hannah and has since vowed to be there for anyone who needs help. Tyler was already sent away by his parents to enter a program for his behavioral issues. If he was caught with a plan to carry out a school shooting, Tyler would basically be saying goodbye to his freedom forever.

Clay, on the other hand, has a slim chance of talking his way out of why he was holding the gun. He could easily make up a story about how he found the gun or that someone unknown was trying to set up Tyler. Thankfully, Clay has Tony (Christian Navarro), Jessica (Alisha Boe), and Justin (Brandon Flynn) there to back him up, as they are all allies now. Being friends with Alex (Miles Heizer), whose father is the local deputy, certainly can’t hurt either. Clay will most likely be in some sort of trouble at the start of 13 Reasons Why season 3 as a way to grab in viewers.

13 Reasons Why season 3 will not include Hannah Baker for the first time in the series. Her name might be mentioned, but actress Katherine Langford is finished with the role. There needs to be some kind of drama at the center of 13 Reasons Why, so shifting the focus to Clay would probably be in the series’ best interest. Whether or not he starts the season in legal trouble, though, remains to be seen.
