In only a few short months, one of the most anticipated superhero films of all time will be available for viewing in theaters everywhere. Until then, fans are left to their own devices in order to speculate the possible outcomes and plot points of the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justicefilm.

While the first full length trailer for the film was well received by the vast majority of comic book film fans, the more recent preview has been significantly more polarizing. While the latest trailer has tempered the anticipation of some fans, others remain as excited as ever for the upcoming entry in the DC Extended Universe.

Some fans believe that Batman V Superman will join the ranks of The Dark Knight and The Avengers as one of the greatest superhero movies ever made. On the other hand, a good number of fans and critics believe that this film could potentially be a disappointment. But this list accounts for all of the facts that fans already know about Batman v Superman, and illustrates why this could be the best comic book film yet.

Here are the 12 Reasons BvS Could Be the Best Superhero Movie Ever.

12. Cinematic History Will Be Made

DC comic fans never thought that this day would come - Batman and Superman will be together on the same screen in a big-budget, live-action, Hollywood movie. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will mark the first film that both heroes will not only appear in together, but have co-starring roles. Not only are these two comic book icons headlining their own film together, they are clashing in a head-to-head match-up of epic proportions.

Not only does it mark the first time fans will see these titans battle on the big screen, but it will also be the first live-action, theatrical appearance for other DC heroes. Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg will all be making their live-action, cinematic debut in this highly anticipated superhero film.

11. Dawn of the Justice League

As many fans out there already know, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will serve as the spring board for the rest of the DC Extended Universe. With all of the major DC characters coming out to play in this film - some for the first time ever - director Zack Snyder and company have decided to reverse engineer the Marvel Cinematic Universe process by teaming up the super pals first, and letting them have separate adventures later.

In order to create buzz and interest for the upcoming slate of DC superhero films, Warner Brothers studios has decided to showcase the heroes in this highly anticipated movie and then explore their own respective stories in the near future. Fans interested in seeing future films from the DC cinematic slate should first see this highly anticipated team up to get a flavor of the the franchise’s future.

10. Doomsday

Now, Doomsday might be a tough sell for a lot of viewers out there, and for several valid reasons. Some fans argue that the design of the character is below par, while others argue that revealing the character in the trailer was unnecessary. Regardless of these concerns, there are numerous of reasons that moviegoers should be excited about this villain’s appearance in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Firstly, Doomsday requires very little backstory as he is a character who does not speak and only has one motivation - to destroy. Not to mention, Doomsday is one of only a few characters in the comic book series that can match the almighty Man of Steel in terms of strength. In fact, Doomsday actually defeats Superman in the comics. If there is a villain out there who can pose a threat to DC’s latest trio and do so without a lot of required set up, it is Doomsday.

9. One of 2016’s Most Anticipated

As the most recent Star Wars film can attest, sometimes the wait makes the movie going experience all the better. Waiting for an anticipated film is somewhat reminiscent of being a child eagerly awaiting Christmas morning. Regardless of how good or bad this film turns out to be, it appears as though it is going to be quite the spectacle, and if trailer views on YouTube are any indicator, it can be concluded that this film is going to receive a lot of attention.

In this golden age of comic book cinema, superhero films are more popular than they ever have been before. With Marvel’s Cinematic Universe encountering success at every turn, many fans out there are hungry for another flavor of theatrical superheroes; DC and Warner Brothers are ready to deliver just that.

8. The Visually Stunning Style of Zack Snyder

Love or hate Zack Snyder, it is undeniable that the Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice director has a visual style all his own. Whether it be Watchmen, Sucker Punch, Man of Steel or 300, Snyder knows how to make his characters and his scenery pop on screen with a much vibrancy. Part of the spectacle of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice comes from the visual style that Snyder brings to the table.

Colors are more dramatic, characters are larger than life, and a great emphasis will be placed on close up action sequences. With all of the fast-paced, intense action sure to take place in Batman V Superman, Zack Snyder will be working firmly within his wheelhouse.

7. Allusions to A Death in the Family

For moviegoers unaware of the Jim Starlin comic, A Death in the Family is the story of Jason Todd, the second Robin in the DC comics, and the infamous Joker. Without drifting too much into spoiler territory, A Death in the Family is one of the darkest comics published by DC, and it appears as though Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will be alluding to this story.

A Death in the Family is not only one of the darkest stories that DC has ever published, but it is also one of the most celebrated Batman graphic novels of all time. All things considered, it should come as no surprise that many comic fans are excited to see this story played out on the big screen.

6. Darkseid is Coming!

Now, this is only speculation at this point, but it appears as though Darkseid will be a DC Extended Universe villain who will at the very least make an appearance in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice - at least judging by the trailers.

Again, for fans unfamiliar with the comic book world, Darkseid is one of the most powerful and one of the most menacing villains in DC universe. His powers and abilities have differed somewhat throughout his many appearances in both the comics as well as the various television series, but no matter what the incarnation, Darkseid has always been a compelling villain who poses a great threat to the Justice League and their allies.

5. The Beginning of the Wonder Woman Franchise

As good as Marvel’s cinematic run has been thus far, it has not been without its criticisms. One of the greatest criticisms among them is the fact that there are no female lead characters in the MCU. While it is true that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has the Black Widow, fans have been vocal about the fact that she is virtually a sidekick in other the Avenger’s solo films.

With most of the Batman V Superman campaign featuring Wonder Woman front and center, it appears as though this DC heroine will be playing a large role in not only this film, but the future of the DC Extended Universe. And with the Wonder Woman solo film slated for release in 2017, it looks as though DC will be beating Marvel to the punch with the first female lead superhero film within these current respective universes.

4. Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman

A mere year or so ago, fans and critics were singing a much different tune concerning the casting of Ben Affleck as the Caped Crusader, but as Batman V Superman inches closer and closer, it feels as though the waves of nerd rage have greatly subsided. As the Affleck critics begin to come around to the idea of this new incarnation, the fit between character and actor is beginning to make some sense.

Ben has come a long way as an actor since the days of the disappointing Daredevil film, and has had starring roles in critically praised films such as Argo, Gone Girl, and The Town just to name a few. Affleck appears to be the fit that fans have been longing for in regards to both the older incarnation of the Dark Knight as well as his alter ego, Bruce Wayne. Not to mention, fans are hopeful that Affleck will bring his directing talents to the table with the future Batman solo films.

3. A Different Tone

While Marvel Studios and Disney have done a fantastic job with their lineup of superhero films, it should be noted that the tone of the majority of their movies thus far, aside from perhaps Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, have mostly had the same underlying tone. The aforementioned tone being more lighthearted and fun, rather than dark and gritty.

While a preference in a film’s tone is more up to the discretion of movie going fans, it is exciting to have these two studios each producing unique films within the same genre. For comic book movie lovers, this is truly the golden age for superhero movies.

2. Inspiration Drawn from The Dark Knight Returns

The Dark Knight Returns is regarded by many as one of the greatest graphic novels ever written. One of the main plot points in this Frank Miller masterpiece is the battle between Batman and Superman, and Snyder has already stated that Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will be drawing inspiration from this critically acclaimed comic.

In fact, those familiar with Frank Miller’s crowning jewel, The Dark Knight Returns, have already taken notice that a few of the shots from the film’s trailers are almost identical to illustrations from the graphic novel. Also, the casting directors have managed to land Ben Affleck, who appears ready to embody the older, more rugged Caped Crusader.

1. David S. Goyer and Chris Terrio Writing

David S. Goyer was one of the writing forces behind the critically acclaimed Dark Knight Trilogy. In collaboration with Christopher Nolan, Goyer penned stories of all three of Nolan’s Batman films and the screenplay of Batman Begins.

Chris Terrio brings great talents to the table as well. Terrio already has an Academy Award for his work on the Oscar winning film Argo. With these two teaming up to write Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, fans can rest easy knowing that the script and screenplay lay in capable hands.

Fans may be worried that trailers have spoiled too much of the film, but many sources have stated that moviegoers are still in for a few surprises. Judging by the writing team behind this movie, it is safe to conclude that this film will still deliver some unexpected twists and turns before the final credits role.
