The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a vast, sprawling collection of superheroes, secret agents and galactic guardians that is expanding faster and faster with every passing year. While we look forward to the addition of more familiar faces from the pages of comic book history, sometimes it just feels like a shame that only Marvel characters can be a part of the massive universe that is the MCU.

There are many amazing film franchises and characters that would make amazing additions to this expansive on-screen universe; whether they would have the perfect skill set to join S.H.I.E.L.D. or the Avengers, or they just seem to fit a certain corner of the MCU, these are the films and franchises that would work as part of the larger Marvel plan.

Here are 10 Non-Superhero Movies We Wish Were Set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

10.  John Wick (2014)

A literal avenger and assassin pushed too far, John Wick (Keanu Reeves) would be a great neutral addition to the MCU; not quite a villain, but definitely no hero. Wick would provide a great partner for Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), as both are incredibly skilled at dealing death and struggling with their own dark pasts.

Of course, he would have the skill set to work with SHIELD, but he makes more sense as a mercenary, and as someone in the moral grey area, he may end up working for Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) rather than Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg). However, more assassins (and Keanu Reeves!) would be a great inclusion to the MCU no matter how it played out.

9.  Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001 – 2003)

Earlier this year, Angelina Jolie was tipped to direct the upcoming Captain Marvel, but she would also do an incredible job in front of the camera for the MCU if Lara Croft was included in the super-verse. Competition for Indiana Jones in the dangerous-missions-to-find-ancient-artifacts arena, this no-nonsense tomb raider wouldn’t be on anyone’s side, but would spend her time rampaging through the MCU stealing everything she could get her hands on. (And selling it on, of course.)

Already as scantily-clad as many classic superheroines, Ms Croft would definitely be a welcome addition to Marvel’s expanding universe.

8.  Pacific Rim (2013)

Extending the sci-fi angle further with a little kaiju goodness, Pacific Rim would have been so much better if Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) was involved in the tech. It’s a film that has so much potential as an MCU addition, but wouldn’t be completely sublimated by the existing heroes; Stark may have the best monster-fighting armor ever, but he doesn’t have someone who would be compatible to “drift” with.

The concept of a dimensional rift sits easily in the comfort zone of superheroes and multiple realms, and the tech would look amazing with a Stark industries twist to it. With a sequel on the way, we can only wish that Marvel could bring Raleigh (Charlie Hunnam) into the fold.

7.  The Bourne Franchise (2002 – 2012)

An experienced agent with some impressive skills, Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) may actually have ended up working for Hydra, rather than the good guys. His work as an assassin and within criminal organizations (if these were set in the MCU, Medusa would be Hydra, obviously) makes him the perfect mercenary addition.

Although the films are more politically driven than much of the MCU, this would actually be a fantastic way to widen Marvel’s existing scope, and link S.H.I.E.L.D. more closely to the CIA. Bourne is a character who plays in the grey areas of morality, and that would be an incredible edge to bring to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

6.  Transformers (2007 – 2014)

While many of the films in this franchise have been criticized by fans, they would still make for an excellent addition to the MCU (and with the Marvel dream team at the helm rather than Michael Bay). Not only does the alien addition suit the new sci-fi feel created with Guardians of the Galaxy, a throwdown between Hulk and a Decepticon would be absolutely incredible! Tony Stark would have a field day with Autobot technology – his Hulkbuster armor would get some serious upgrades if he got to spend time with Optimus and the gang.

While most of the superheroes wouldn’t be able to compare to enormous self-aware robot alien vehicles, it would definitely be interesting to see how they would stack up in a fight.

5.  Kingsman (2014)

The gentleman spy with a twist, Eggsy (Taron Egerton) would no doubt be overawed by the superheroes he read about as a child, but could probably teach S.H.I.E.L.D. agents a thing or two about street-smarts. The Kingsman organization has already saved the world once, and they have experience with being betrayed by their leader (how could you, Arthur?). This could be an incredible international partnership, as Roxy (Sophie Cookson) and Eggsy battle superheroes on British soil, and Merlin (Mark Strong) has a sit-down with Tony Stark over the latest technology (you know he would want one of those umbrellas!).

After taking down Valentine (Samuel L Jackson) and Gazelle (Sofia Boutella), I have no doubt that Eggsy could take on true supervillains next.

4.  Kill Bill (2002 - 2003)

Adding some extra samurai flair to the MCU, The Bride (Uma Thurman) would be a great addition to Hell’s Kitchen and the upcoming Iron Fist series (as well as the rest of Marvel’s on-screen worlds, of course). This vengeance-happy assassin might be a little too violent for the PG-13 side of the Marvel-verse, but she could hold her own in the dark and dirty Netflix corner, and it would be more than amazing to see her hanging out with Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter).

There’s more scope on the horizon for some katana-wielding warriors in future, too, with the upcoming Dr Strange and Tilda Swinton’s Ancient One. Room for a Volume Three connection? (We wish!)

3.  James Bond (1962 - 2015)

The ultimate gentleman spy would be an amazing addition to any super-team; he’s basically on the same level as Mockingbird (Adrianne Palicki) already (just with… more martinis). Between his gadgets, his weapons expertise and his ability to speak almost any language, he could easily rise in the ranks of S.H.I.E.L.D. (or more probably, STRIKE, seeing as he is a Brit!).

Or, of course, Her Majesty’s service could lend him out as a consultant spy; he’s got plenty of experience with classified missions and code names, and he could easily head out into the field with Mockingbird or Black Widow. On top of which (pun intended) he would undoubtedly attempt a seduction of some of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s best female agents, and who wouldn’t want to watch Agent May (Ming-na Wen) deal with that?

2. The Fifth Element (1997)

A perfect match for the recent blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy, LeeLoo (Milla Jovovich) and Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis) would be an incredible addition to the sci-fi side of the MCU. After their adventures saving the galaxy, going back to life as a cab driver has to be pretty dull, so a move into the superhero business could be just the thing for Korben.

While technically the film takes place in a very different time, this is an easy fix for comic book heroes: just send ‘em back via black hole (or some similar plot device). We would love to see how Korben deals with StarLord’s (Chris Pratt) attitude, or how Gamora (Zoe Saldana) reacts to being “protected,” even by a Supreme Being. This space opera would fit perfectly into the sci-fi side of the MCU.

1.  Indiana Jones (1981- 2008)

The world’s coolest archaeologist definitely deserves superhero-status in the MCU, Indy (Harrison Ford) and his mystical artifacts definitely deserve a spot in the MCU. Most of the discoveries in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (the obelisk, the portal) and their connections to ancient civilizations and organizations are right up Indiana’s alley, and he is more than capable of dealing with supernatural situations.

With his willingness to charge in to any situation and his constant exploration, Indy could have already found his way to areas on the Marvel map that few others have; who is to say that he hasn’t wandered into Wakanda, or visited Afterlife on one of his journeys?
