The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series is coming to Disney+ next year. The show has recently confirmed certain details such as who will direct the show and more actors who might be returning for the series. The show will obviously focus on Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes, but it’s also the perfect opportunity for the MCU to address the many questions that still remain about Captain America after the ending of Avengers: Endgame.

Here are ten questions that the series could answer about Steve Rogers.

WHY DID STEVE DECIDE TO STAY IN THE PAST?

In Avengers: Endgame when Steve Rogers goes to the past to return the stones, he chooses to remain in the past and pursue a life and relationship with Peggy Carter. In many ways, this decision came somewhat out of nowhere, as at other times in the MCU he’s said he was uninterested in family life. While he obviously has missed the past, having him leave all of his friends, and a world still healing from Thanos, seemed a bit out of character. More insight into why he did so would be useful.

WAS STEVE LIVING IN A NEW TIMELINE OR THE SAME ONE?

Possibly the biggest question about Steve Rogers going back in time is what this decision does to the timeline. The writers of the movie, Markus and McFeely, have said that Steve Rogers lived his life in the same timeline, so there would have been two of him. But the Russo Brothers have said that Steve’s decision would create a new timeline. These conflicting statements have fans confused, and this show could determine the official decision and clear things up.

WHAT DID HE TELL BUCKY ABOUT HIS PLAN TO STAY IN THE PAST?

In these final scenes of Endgame, Steve and Buck say goodbye to each other. Bucky is clearly emotional, and he doesn’t act surprised when Steve returns to them as an old man. It’s also been confirmed that Steve talked to Bucky about his decision, but we didn’t get to see this scene.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series provides an opportunity for Bucky to talk about what Steve said to him and how he felt about it. Especially since this series will have the time to focus more on Bucky and his character.

WHY DIDN’T HE TELL SAM?

Unlike Bucky, it doesn’t appear that Steve talked to Sam Wilson about the decision he had made to remain in the past. Sam seems very confused when Steve shows up on the bench as an old man and gives him the shield. It seems a bit strange that Steve would talk to one of his best friends about his decision but not the other one. The show could explore Sam’s feelings about this and discuss why Steve made this decision. It seems like Sam deserved a little more respect than that.

DETAILS ABOUT STEVE ROGER’S LIFE IN THE PAST WITH PEGGY

While there’s no guarantee at all that Steve Rogers will actually appear on the show, although discussion of him seems inevitable and should definitely be included, it would be great if he did.

The series could possibly give us some insight into the life he creates with Peggy and what their new life looks like. This could be done in just some small, flashback scenes and wouldn’t need to be the focus.

IF HE CREATED A NEW TIMELINE, WHAT DID HE DO THERE?

If the Russo version of Steve’s timeline is correct, this brings up a lot of questions. If a new, branched timeline is created, what impacts does this have on other people in the MCU? If Steve is living in a new reality, it makes one wonder if he would have tried to stop certain bad things from happening.

Fans are particularly interested in if Steve would have done anything to save Bucky from HYDRA. It would seem very out of character if he just let Bucky be tortured and brainwashed for decades while knowing he could stop it.

WILL OLD STEVE ROGERS PLAY A ROLE IN THE MCU?

There is also the possibility that Steve would show up in the series as his older self. Whatever timeline he comes from, the fact he is able to be back to see Sam and Bucky by the lake raises questions. Old Steve Rogers could be a sort of mentor figure to them both, especially to Sam as he takes up the mantle of Captain America. This would be a way Steve could return to the MCU and his Endgame decision could be explored without making him the main focus.

HOW DO STEVE’S ACTION IMPACT PEGGY CARTER’S LIFE?

Steve’s decision at the end of Endgame doesn’t just impact him. This choice also directly impacts Peggy Carter’s life in so many ways. If she is in the same timeline, his choice would have erased her storyline with Daniel Sousa. Or, alternately, if they are living in a branched timeline, this also raises questions about her life. It would be a shame if Steve going back to marry her stops her from founding SHIELD.

HOW DOES SHARON CARTER FEELING ABOUT ALL THIS?

Another interesting side impact of this decision is how it impacts Sharon Carter. Since this character is rumored to be in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, how she feels about this would need to be explored. The whole Sharon/Steve thing was already weird and underdeveloped in the MCU, and Steve going back to marry Peggy makes it even weirder.

WHAT IS THE OFFICIAL VERSION OF EVENTS?

Overall, the show in some way should address the Steve Rogers timeline issue and clear things up. Some official answers are needed. It needs to be explained how Steve was able to return with the shield to give to Sam. Having conflicting versions of events from the creators of Avengers: Endgame has frustrated fans, and they deserve to know what is really going on.
