In the MCU, the relationship between Captain America and Iron Man is a bit of a complicated one.

At times they are each other’s friends and allies in saving the world, during others, they are near enemies and seem to barely be able to spark a conversation without someone threatening to bunch the other. While these two have had many ups and downs over the years, it’s clear that they have been at the center of the franchise up until Avengers: Endgame.

Many fans enjoy the love/hate relationship shared between these two. Here are the 10 best Steve and Tony moments in the MCU.

WHEN THEY ALMOST GOT INTO A FIGHT IN THE AVENGERS MOVIE

When Tony and Steve first meet and interact, it’s safe to say that they are not big fans of one another. They get into an argument pretty quickly and are rather quick to accuse the other of failing to see the big picture.

It’s clear these two have very different approaches to life and how they see the world. While they almost come to blows, this changes when the Helicarrier comes under attack and they have to work together for the first time.

WOOD CHOPPING SCENE

One thing that many fans have noticed about scenes between these two is that they have a lot of chemistry. Whether it’s negative or positive definitely varies, but they clearly have strong feelings about each other.

This hilarious scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron shows Tony struggling to keep up with Steve’s strength while cutting wood on Clint’s farm. Plus, this moment gave everyone that scene with Steve ripping the firewood in half which is featured in many a gif.

TONY TEASING STEVE ABOUT THAT “LANGUAGE” COMMENT

Tony Stark is a sarcastic, sometimes reckless, and often irreverent genius; conversely, Steve is more reserved and can be a bit more straight-laced at times.

When Steve criticizes bad language, it’s definitely a funny moment as he himself swears a few times in the MCU. Tony is, of course, very amused by this comment and gives Steve crap about it.

THEIR INTERACTION AT THE END OF AGE OF ULTRON

During Avengers: Age of Ultron, Steve and Tony find themselves at odds once again. Even though they left on friendly terms at the end of The Avengers, Steve is frustrated by Tony’s decisions that lead to the creation of Ultron. However, they once again find themselves friends in the end.

They have a good conversation, and Steve finds himself in a new leadership role at the upstate Avengers compound. It’s clear that these two do their best work when they are working together as a team while leading the other heroes.

THE TRAGIC FIGHT AT THE END OF CIVIL WAR

Some of the best moments between these two characters aren’t necessarily positive ones. The fight between Steve, Tony, and Bucky at the end of Captain America: Civil War is rife with emotion and betrayal.

It’s clear that Tony viewed Steve as a friend, and seeing their friendship fall apart is rough to watch. This makes for a great fight scene because the actions mean a lot. It’s not just action for action’s sake.

STEVE SENDING TONY THE MOBILE PHONE

After the fight in Siberia cause these two to split up, along with the entire team, this moment gives some hope for the future. While Steve had to leave with Bucky in order to save him, it’s clear he still cares about Tony and what happens to him.

By giving Tony a way to reach Steve whenever he needs, he shows that he will be his ally again in the future.

STEVE CALLING TONY EARTH’S BEST DEFENDER

Avengers: Infinity War shows that the Avengers are still very split apart and have gone their separate ways in many respects. When Thanos sends his children to Earth and Tony goes to space to try to stop Thanos, Steve remarks that Earth has lost it’s best defender.

This is a sweet moment as it shows that Steve does trust that Tony Stark will always look out for the world and be a hero. Even though these two don’t interact in this movie at all, it’s clear that their separation is a big hit to the heroes.

THEIR EMOTIONAL REUNION IN ENDGAME

When Steve and Tony finally interact again in Avengers: Endgame, it’s definitely a tense moment. Tony doesn’t hold back with his feelings and is angry at Steve for splitting the Avenger apart.

This is a great moment that brings some resolution to some remaining issues between the two heroes. Fans who enjoy these characters and their dynamic were definitely on the age of their seats.

TONY GIVING STEVE BACK HIS SHIELD

At the end of Captain America: Civil War, Steve Rogers drops the shield that Howard Stark made all of those years ago. This is a dramatic moment that shows that Steve is leaving that identity behind in order to save Bucky’s life and help him find his freedom.

Tony giving Steve back the shield is definitely symbolic and marks the mending of their relationship as the original Avengers seek to fix the catastrophe caused by Thanos.

WHEN THEY BOTH AGREED TO TRUST EACH OTHER AGAIN

One of the best moments between Iron Man and Captain America in Avengers: Endgame is when they work together again in order to visit Camp Lehigh to get the tesseract. After all that has transpired between them, they both are able to put everything behind them and trust each other again.

When Tony asks if Steve trusts him and Steve shakes his hand, it’s clear they are friends again. This was definitely an appreciated moment of closure, especially since Avengers: Endgame marks an end to both of their stories.
