In the MCU, Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter didn’t always get their due. While they had a lot of moments together in The First Avenger, tragedy tore them apart when Steve had to put the Tesseract into the ice. While they end up with what might be considered a happy ending, albeit a controversial one, in Endgame, these two don’t get enough screen time together.
Even so, it’s clear they have a lot of love and respect for each other, and they are a canon MCU ship that many people can get behind. Here are the 10 best Steve and Peggy moments that have been in the MCU over the years.
WHEN PEGGY WAS AMAZED BY STEVE’S TRANSFORMATION
This moment is probably one of the most relatable ones in the entire MCU. While Steve and Peggy do have some chemistry before his transformation, it’s clear that Peggy finds his new Captain America body pretty attractive. We definitely can’t blame her.
This moment is funny considering that Peggy is usually very professional and put together. But this one small moment of being overcome by how Steve looks after the serum is definitely one that made audiences smile.
“THE RIGHT PARTNER”
When Peggy and Steve first have a conversation, Peggy notes that Steve doesn’t seem that comfortable talking to a woman. He reveals that he hasn’t talked to women that much and hasn’t even danced with one. When she asks why Steve hasn’t, he replied that he’s been waiting for the right partner.
This line becomes somewhat of a theme in their relationship. This idea that they are waiting to dance with each other for decades is definitely a heartbreaking one.
WHEN PEGGY SHOT AT STEVE’S NEW SHIELD
One thing that fans really love about Peggy Carter is that she is a badass and doesn’t take any crap. When she sees Steve kissing someone else, and he questions her about whether she “fondues” with Howard Stark, she puts his new shield to the test by shooting at it with her pistol.
While this might have been a bit of an overreaction, it does show that she is a person who won’t be messed around with, and it’s also pretty funny. Steve definitely got a wake-up call after this moment!
STEVE VISITING PEGGY IN HER OLD AGE
This moment from Captain America: The Winter Soldier is definitely a powerful one, but it’s also really sad. When Steve sees Peggy again after he comes out of the ice, she is an old woman. They talk about their lives, and Peggy encourages Steve to try to make his own life and move forward.
The love between the two of them is very strong, and it’s clear they both are feeling a lot of pain over the life they missed out on together. Even though they both try to move on, there’s still no denying the bond between them.
PEGGY HELPING STEVE RESCUE BUCKY & THE OTHERS
One thing that’s extremely powerful about the relationship between these two is how they believe in each other. Peggy always knew that Steve was meant for more than just selling war bonds, and she puts her money where her mouth is.
When Steve learns that Bucky and other soldiers have been captured, he is willing to do whatever it takes to save them. Luckily, Peggy is there to offer concrete help and assist him in doing so.
THEIR FIRST KISS
Sometimes, relationships in the MCU can feel a bit rushed. Steve and Peggy, however, get a significant amount of build up in The First Avenger so that it’s easy to root for them when they have their first kiss.
Plus, the first time they kiss is literally while they are both on the back of a moving car, which seems like a fitting, hardcore way for these two to finally lock lips. While they don’t get to kiss too much in these movies, this was definitely a sweet moment.
STEVE GOING BACK TO SEE PEGGY IN ENDGAME
This scene was definitely one that had fans feeling rather split. While some people were happy with the Avengers: Endgame ending for Steve Roger’s arc, others felt that it messed up the timeline and didn’t make a lot of sense for his character, either.
At the very least, it was sweet to see these two finally get that dance they talked about so much all of those years ago. That is at least something that many fans can agree on, even if they didn’t love how the ending played out.
PEGGY ENCOURAGING STEVE TO KEEP GOING AFTER BUCKY’S DEATH
This is another example of Peggy being there for Steve in some of his darkest moments. When Bucky “dies,” Steve is understandably heartbroken and absolutely devastated.
Peggy encourages him to respect Bucky’s memory and his choices, and her words inspire him to keep going and fight back against HYDRA. Peggy is not one to let Steve mope, and this moment shows respect and love she has for him.
PEGGY SEEING STEVE’S GOOD HEART BEFORE HE WAS CAPTAIN AMERICA
While there’s no doubt that Steve Rogers looks extremely handsome after the serum does its work, one of the sweetest things about their relationship is that Peggy sees the good in Steve even before this.
When Erskine brings Steve to the SSR, she sees that he has a good heart and is willing to sacrifice himself for other people. This is clearly part of what she loves about him.
JUST BEFORE STEVE WENT INTO THE ICE
This is another extremely powerful and emotional moment. Peggy talks to Steve over the radio while he is about to put the plane under the ice, and it’s hard not to feel emotional when watching these scenes.
They both clearly know what is about to happen, and the way they talk about a future together is both beautiful and heartbreaking. Seeing these two have their relationship cut so short definitely hits hard if you’re invested in these characters.
