Nicolas Winding Refn’s series Too Old to Die Young is one of the strangest things currently available on streaming services. Not only does the director consider it to be a 13-hour movie, but its artistic and auteur-driven execution of an otherwise straightforward tale of revenge in an unforgiving criminal underworld leaves many of its plotlines unresolved. The ending to Martin Jones’ (Miles Teller) story – and those of the adjacent characters – left a lot of viewers either confused or annoyed because of how little is explained or how lacking the whole experience felt....

Before Roswell, New Mexico premiered this year, a different version of the story existed 20 years earlier. In the late 90s, Roswell debuted on the WB, inspired by the Roswell High book series developed at the same time. The series followed a group of teenagers in the New Mexico town as they discovered that not everyone who lived there was completely human. Main characters Max, Isabel, Michael, and Tess were alien-human hybrids hidden on Earth to keep them safe from the enemies of their home planet....

It has often been said that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is to today’s moviegoing public what the Star Wars trilogy was to audiences of the ‘70s and ‘80s. It should come as no surprise that the number one goal of major movie studios is to turn a profit. While smaller studios will sometimes produce passion projects more for the sake of art than money-making, the major studios (e.g. 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., Universal, etc.) are far more concerned with the bottom line. They want to make the next Avengers ($623 million at the domestic box office on a $220 million budget), not the next Fantastic Four ($56 million on a $120 million budget)....

Gremlins, released in 1984, had something of a dream team behind it– it was written by Chris Columbus (The Goonies, Adventures in Babysitting); directed by Joe Dante (Twilight Zone: The Movie); scored by 18-time Academy Award nominee Jerry Goldsmith; and overseen by none other than Steven Spielberg. It debuted at #2 at the box office, but to be fair, it opened next to Ghostbusters, and remarkably, it only fell about one million dollars short of the top spot....

US mobile carriers are trying to reduce 5G aviation fears by offering to temporarily reduce base station power across the country, with output very tightly limited near airports. They propose to do this for six months, to allow time for the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) to carry out further studies. The situation appears to be rather a bizarre one given the complete lack of evidence for any risks of interference with aircraft …...

It may be a piece of junk to some people, but the Millennium Falcon is the fastest ship in the galaxy, as Han Solo so proudly proclaimed. After all, it made the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs (however long that is)! But is it the fastest ship in all of sci-fi? Probably not. In fact, there are a handful of ships that are faster than the Falcon, even at faster-than-light speeds – and a few more that come awfully close....

French filmmaker Luc Besson is a bit of an underappreciated titan of the film industry, and even if you’re not aware of it you’ve almost certainly seen a movie or two that was directed or at least penned by the cinematic powerhouse. Besson is particularly skilled when it comes to creating unique science fiction and action films, so it comes as no real surprise that most of the films that he has written/directed feature some seriously memorable badass characters....
